Jessica Woods Wins NSW State Women's Snooker Championship

Jessica Woods has taken out the 2019 Guildford Leagues Club Nsw Women’s State Snooker title, defeating Shirley Ryan.

The tournament was held for the first time at the fabulous new snooker room at Guildford Leagues Club. This event will be held at Guildford for the next two years and Snooker & Billiards NSW would like to thank the club for their fantastic support of billiards and snooker. They have built a first class facility, backed up by first class service and food.

Mingara Recreation Club have been wonderful hosts of this event for the last 14 years. The move to Guildford Leagues Club marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for Women’s Snooker in NSW. We look forward to a long & successful relationship with them.

The tournament attracted a mix of players from across NSW, including several new faces. The three first-time entrants all made it through the Round Robin stages. Christine Firth and Kenny Tirza were defeated in the quarter finals, whilst Joey Tohme reached the semi final. Other qualifiers included Annette Clifford & Rhonda Knight (quarters) and Carlie Tait (semi).

Jessica showed her experience and determination throughout the weekend and thoroughly deserved her victory.  She topped her round-robin group on day one and recorded the tournament’s highest break (39). It’s been a successful year for Jessica so far - winning the Australian National Women’s Snooker Championship in Adelaide last month, and being selected to represent Australia at the upcoming IBSF World Championships in Turkey later in the year.

First-time finalist Shirley was gallant in defeat but put in a solid performance all weekend and should be proud of her efforts.

Thank you to the Guildford Leagues Snooker & Billiards Club for their assistance all weekend, and to our to our wonderful referees. Kenny Nicol (Cueball TZ) did a terrific job live streaming the event also.

Lastly, to the players – thank you all for making this such an enjoyable weekend. The friendships and memories made are what makes these events such a success.
